Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo city, headquarters of a markedly agricultural county, framed in the magnificent Alentejo plain and the blue of the Alqueva Reservoir, Reguengos de Monsaraz is famous above all for the quality of the wine produced in this region. It is often called the "eagles nest", because it is located on the top of a hill, standing out from the Alentejo plains.
The surrounding nature is the biggest attraction of Reguengos de Monsaraz, with the peace of mind characteristic of the Alentejo, and there are several points of interest in this beautiful region, such as the Church of St. Anthony (19th century, neo-Gothic style), or the Esporão Estate, and all the megalithic heritage found throughout the county.
A region of well kept and cherished traditions, it is also known for the quality of its nationally recognized handicraft, such as the pottery of São Pedro do Corval, the first pottery center of the country, and the famous manufacture of the Reguengos blankets, which dates back to the very origins of the town.
The history of Reguengos de Monsaraz is intertwined with the history of Monsaraz, one of the most important villages in the county, and one of the most beautiful in Alentejo and in the country.
This is a region of ancient human occupation, and in its limits there are numerous Paleolithic remains that confirm the existence of cultures from another time.
